Several Mom bloggers (including moi) were invited to spend the night at SeaWorld San Antonio and learn all about their animals, eco-friendliness, community commitments and more! Honestly, I learned so much, I'm surprised my brain didn't explode!
So many animals and they were all so amazing! Sharks, rays, starfish, beluga whales, sea lions, penguins and my all time favorites Shamu and the dolphins!! This was my first time being so close to all of these animals. Amazing. I know I keep saying that, but really, its the only thing that even comes close to how awesome this was!
Did you know SeaWorld only uses poisitive reinforcement while working with their animals? Its true. No punishments, ever. Which was reassuring. If the animals want to perform, they will, if not, no big deal, the trainers just take over and of course, the show must go on! :-) (PETA must be so proud, right?)
And I bet you didnt know about their efforts to be green. I was surprised to learn that they reuse all water throughout the park and dont let any go to waste. For instance, they capture all of the condensation from the air conditioners (which produce up to 5 gallons per minute!) and use it to water the foliage or wash the walkways. They even reuse the water from cleaning those walkways by filtering it and finding yet another use for it! How cool! And I was also surprised to hear that of the 200 golf carts used in the park, not one drop of gasoline is used. Nope, none. Everything is solar powered. There are also recycling receptacles in the park for all of the 20oz soda bottles. I'm very pleased with the efforts they are making to help our planet.
And yet more new knowledge! Apparently this program has been around for a while, but I had no idea. "Here's to the Heroes!" is a salute to those military members presently serving our country. All soldiers and up to 3 of their family members are given complimentary admission to the park! Being a former military wife, I have to say, this is very much appreciated. I only wish something like this was available while my husband was still in the Army.
Check out all of the fabulous Mom bloggers I met there, I ♥ them all! Be sure to follow them on twitter too!
